I. Position Overview:
The Head of SME Business will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing the bank‘s strategy for the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) segment. This leadership role involves
driving growth, profitability, and market share by offering tailored financial products and services to SMEs. The individual will oversee SME product development, relationship management, risk
assessment, and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
II. Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the bank‘s SME business strategy in
alignment with overall corporate goals; Identify growth opportunities within the SME sector
and create actionable business plans; Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and
regulatory changes to adapt strategies effectively. - Business Development: Drive the acquisition of new SME clients while deepening
relationships with existing ones; Develop and oversee the implementation of innovative SME
banking products and services, including loans, deposits, trade finance, and digital solutions;
Collaborate with marketing teams to design campaigns targeting the SME segment. - Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing SME banking team, including
relationship managers and product specialists; Set clear performance targets and ensure the
team meets or exceeds revenue, profitability, and customer satisfaction goals. - Risk Management: Work closely with the credit risk team to establish prudent risk
assessment frameworks for SME lending; Ensure the portfolio remains healthy by monitoring
credit quality and minimizing non-performing loans (NPLs). - Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for SME-related partnerships
and collaborations with external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry
associations; Represent the bank in SME forums, conferences, and events to enhance brand
visibility - Operational Excellence: Streamline processes to improve customer experience and
operational efficiency; Leverage technology and digital platforms to enhance service delivery
for SME clients - Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all SME banking activities comply with local and
international banking regulations; Maintain robust internal controls and reporting mechanisms.
III. Skills and Competencies Needed
- Leadership and Management: Proven ability to lead and inspire teams to achieve
business objectives; Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. - Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the SME sector, including its challenges,
opportunities, and financial needs; Familiarity with banking products and services tailored
to SMEs (e.g., working capital loans, trade finance, cash management). - Business Acumen: Strong financial analysis and strategic planning skills; Ability to
identify market opportunities and translate them into actionable initiatives. - Customer Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
to build long-term relationships with SME clients; Ability to understand client needs and
provide customized solutions. - Risk and Compliance: Knowledge of credit risk assessment and mitigation strategies;
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing SME banking. - Technology and Innovation: Proficiency in leveraging digital tools and platforms to
enhance customer experience; Awareness of fintech trends and their application in SME
banking. - Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and data interpretation skills to monitor portfolio
performance and market trends - Negotiation and Influencing: Ability to negotiate effectively with clients, partners, and
internal stakeholders
IV. Educational Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance,
Economics, or a related field - Experience: 10+ years of experience in banking or financial services, with at least 5 years
in a leadership role managing SME banking or a similar portfolio; Proven track record of
driving revenue and profitability in the SME segment
